Susi picked up somewhere to stay as a stop-gap before we hit the jungle. On the basis of this I can highly recommend coffee plantations as a place to lay your head. All sat at the top of the slightly rickety wooden viewing platform, there were endless views over the jungle—perfect for watching the sunset with a Cuba Libre.
A clean, friendly, well-organised place in a beautiful location—we were all amazed. On the down side, the promised monkeys failed to materialise. This was the first in a series of simian no shows. And strangely, they weren’t great at making coffee.

I'm interested because i"m planning to go to Latin America for a few months to learn Spanish in 2009. I'd love to get a journo placement while I"m out there - maybe subbing copy or something...
To get uk work I recommend you use this blog / set up a site to showcase your work. It needs an about me section with a photo of you and career summary... also try to have pages on different types of publication you've worked for - eg sectors / specialisms covered...
I think your site would need to have a contact phone number for you and a readable email address. AT the moment the blog looks a bit lost in space - no pix /no way to contact you...

I envy you being out there in Bolivia and hope you get some work... you can contact me at kathburke at hotmail.com I have a pal who's worked a lot in South America to see if he has any advice - he works for big international development charities. They have no problem with Latin America being distant because they're always dealing internationally. maybe an internationl client / publication would be a good route because they won't be so parochial...
Another idea - once you're more set up... you could pitch yourself to some UK based copywriters etc you know to do overnight proofreading jobs... that way your different time zone works to your advantage.
